Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah turns down contract extension

Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah has reportedly turned down a contract offer from the Emirates club, as per a report in The Athletic and fans were not too disappointed with the update.

The youngster made his senior debut for the north London club back in 2017 but has struggled to find regular first-team action. The forward managed only 65 appearances for the club so far, scoring 13 goals.

According to a report in The Athletic, the Gunners have offered a contract extension to Nketiah, but the offer has not been accepted by the player’s camp and it is highly likely that the player will leave this summer.

The forward currently has one year remaining on his contract and the north Londoners will have to sell him this summer to recoup some transfer fee. The youngster is currently linked with a move to West Ham, Watford and Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal Fever View:

Selling Eddie Nketiah could be a blessing in disguise for Arsenal. The north Londoners are looking to overhaul the squad this summer and will be looking to cash in on players who don’t feature in Mikel Arteta’s plans for next season.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette ahead of him in the line-up, Nketiah wasn’t afforded many opportunities to prove himself and it will be better for the Englishman to leave the Emirates Stadium and go elsewhere in search of regular first-team action.

With Gabriel Martinelli also coming through the ranks, Nketiah will find it hard and given his age, it is necessary to play regularly. The forward’s departure might be upsetting for some fans but it will be the right decision for both parties.

Arsenal will be looking to bring in a prolific goal scorer. Lacazette’s future at the Emirates stadium is also hanging in the air and it is an absolute necessity for Mikel Arteta to sign someone who can deputise for Aubameyang next season. After a troublesome season, the Gunners fans will be hoping to see their Gabonese star in full form for the upcoming season.
