Arsenal favorites to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen

Arsenal are eyeing a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the summer as they look to reinforce their striking department, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport(via PressReader).

The Nigerian international joined Napoli in 2020 and has been involved in 58 games for the club. He has been in fine goal-scoring form this season, scoring 16 goals in 28 outings across all competitions.

As per Gazzetta Dello Sport, Osimhen is determined to play Champions League football next season. Although Napoli are likely to qualify, a switch to another club is certainly on the cards for the 23-year-old.

The Italian publication has further stated that the Gunners are keen on securing the striker’s services next season. Reportedly, the club has already taken several ‘concrete steps’ through intermediaries to sign the player. However, Arsenal aren’t the only suitors for the youngster. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the situation.

Several reports have emerged suggesting that Gabriel Jesus and Tammy Abraham are the other prime targets for Arsenal. It is clear that they are on the lookout for a striker in the summer transfer window.

The north Londoners are in dire need of reinforcements at the top of the pitch. Their current strikers, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have had an underwhelming campaign. With uncertainty surrounding their futures at the club, signing a striker should be on top of Mikel Arteta’s transfer list for the summer.

Osimhen is a young and proven goalscorer. His huge physical stature helps him out muscle defenders and makes him a target for crosses into the box. He possesses immense skill and speed, making him one of the hottest prospects in Europe.

Signing the 23-year-old would be a statement of intent from the club. The signs are promising, but Arsenal must secure Champions League football next season for this transfer move to materialize.

After back-to-back wins in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta’s side have returned to the top-four spot. But with Tottenham breathing down their necks with just two points behind them, nothing is guaranteed yet. The Gunners cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to return to Europe’s elite competition after six long years.
