Arsenal returned to winning ways as they got past West Bromwich Albion 6-0 in the EFL Cup and the star of the show was captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who scored a hat-trick.
After losing their first two matches of the season, the pressure was on the Gunners to win this game. Manager Mikel Arteta responded by picking a strong eleven which proved to be too much for the Baggies.
The north Londoners began the game in a nervy fashion as they tried to settle into a rhythm. Once they did, their passing and speed led to a flurry of goals. The skipper got onto the end of a shot from Bukayo Saka to get his first goal of the season.
He doubled his tally just before the end of the first half. Aubameyang secured his hat-trick after the hour mark with a stunning finish that flew into the top corner. It was a welcome return to form for both the club and the player.
This display was lauded by the fans who took to Twitter to sing the praises of their captain. Here are some of the best reactions:
Captain Auba deserve to be Man of the Match, because he was on FIRE and scoring a hat trick against West Brom! What a outstanding performance from the main man! 🔥

Arsenal Fever View
It was important for both Arsenal and Aubameyang to have a match like this. This result will give the team some amount of confidence when they head to the Etihad to play Manchester City on Saturday.
The performance on Wednesday was encouraging for a number of reasons as the Gunners were finally able to create some chances and score from them. The likes of Saka and Nicolas Pepe looked to be in good touch and that would make the boss feel much happier.
Though the north Londoners got the result they needed, they must not get carried away. There will be much tougher challenges waiting like the one from City and how the Gunners deal with that will show their progress as a team.
Arteta and Arsenal have some momentum as they head into an important clash against City. With the captain back among the goals, the north Londoners would fancy their chances now. Aubameyang would be keen to make up for a disappointing campaign last season and he has started on the right note.
