Arsenal fans react to Bukayo Saka’s impressive display for England

Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka put in a terrific display for England during their 1-0 win over Czech Republic in the final group stage game of Euro 2020 and Arsenal fans were mightily impressed with the youngster.

Although the Three Lions had already qualified for the next round, they were under serious pressure coming into the clash after an underwhelming performance against arch-rivals Scotland.

The Gunners star was handed a surprise start by Gareth Southgate over the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho. Some were skeptical of this decision but the 19-year-old proved his worth with an impressive display in what was his debut appearance in a tournament game for England.

Saka was dynamic and direct in his play with incredible positional awareness and close control. He undoubtedly played a vital role in England’s only goal of the match. His driving run with the ball from his own half enabled the Three Lions to break quickly before Jack Grealish’s accurate cross was headed home by Raheem Sterling in the 12th minute of the match.

The Hale End graduate’s defensive work was also evident in the second half as the Czechs searched for an equalizer. He worked in tandem with Kyle Walker on the right flank to secure a clean sheet. Saka’s performance certainly didn’t go unnoticed as he was awarded the UEFA star of the match award, meaning that he has won three MOTM awards in just five starts for England.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright heaped praise on the North London star. Speaking to ITV, he said:

“Saka, my guy. Everybody at Arsenal knows that Saka is burdened with glorious purpose.”

“You know what he’s going to do, this is what he’s been doing at Arsenal all season, getting us out of holes by being positive, going at people, and making things happen. That exactly what England needed, it’s fantastic, I’m delighted for him.”

Arsenal Fever View:

Saka has been consistently this good for Arsenal last season with 17 goal contributions. He was starting almost every game for a reason and now he has proved his capabilities on the international stage. He is quickly becoming a priceless asset to the Emirates club.

The north Londoners have failed to qualify for European football next season and if they want to secure their academy graduate’s services for the long term, they will have to progress in the Premier League. This transfer window presents them with a perfect opportunity to do so.

While Saka has been performing on the highest level it is also important to bear in mind that he is still a teenager. He should be surrounded by quality players who can elevate his game further. Tying his future with the club for many years to come could be one of the most significant pieces of business the Gunners have done in recent times.
