Arsenal fans react as Reiss Nelson edges closer towards the exit door

Reiss Nelson could leave Arsenal this summer, as per a report in CBS Sports and fans are fearful of experiencing yet another Serge Gnabri situation.

Despite having a great time with the youth squad, the Hale End graduate has failed to replicate his youth-level performances with the senior squad. The winger made fringe appearances for the north London club over the past three seasons, scoring only four goals in 47 appearances in all competitions.

The 21-year-old had a loan stint in 2018 for German side Hoffenheim, but the winger did not have a great time in Bundesliga either.

CBS Sports claim that the north London club have offered the winger a contract extension, with the plan of sending him out on loan next season. However, the Englishman hasn’t expressed any desire to sign an extension and the Emirates club are fearful of losing out on the academy graduate for free next season as the youngster has only 12 months remaining in his current contract.

The report further claims that three Premier League clubs Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion and newcomers Brentford are showing interest in signing Reiss Nelson along with several German clubs and Greek side Olympiakos.

The Gunners fans have shown their disappointment at the prospect of losing out on yet another academy graduate this summer, with Eddie Nketiah also linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal Fever View:

Arsenal are looking for a squad overhaul this summer and they will need adequate financial resources to execute the plans in the transfer market. Reiss Nelson’s departure might seem like a bad decision right now, but selling the winger and investing the transfer fee in a different area will be a shrewd decision by the Emirates club.

The 21-year-old has not displayed any sign of progression since being promoted to the senior squad and it will be the right time for both parties to part ways because the winger has to play regular first-team football at this stage of his career which will not be the case at the north London club.

The youngster might become a world-class talent in the future, but, given his current role in the squad, it will be the right decision to cash in on the academy graduate as the north London club are pursuing the deals of James Maddison and Ben White who will not come cheap. Following the back-to-back eighth-placed finishes, the pressure is on Mikel Arteta to deliver next season and the Spaniard has to be ruthless in the transfer window to obtain all of his targets and create a team that can challenge for the biggest prizes.
