Multiple reports over the past few days have claimed that Arsenal were closing in on a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White and ahead of a potential transfer, the defender has responded to the speculation. Some fans have responded emphatically to the player’s comments.
The 23-year-old had a scintillating loan stint at Leeds United in the 2019-20 season, featuring in every game under Marcelo Bielsa. After returning to the AMEX Stadium, the defender has continued his terrific form and established himself as one of the first names on Brighton’s team sheet.
In an interview with talkSPORT, the Englishman was questioned on the speculation surrounding his move to Arsenal. White replied:
“It’s nice, it’s happened quite a lot over the last two years, there’s been a lot of noise.”
When asked, if he speaks to his fellow teammates about the reports. The defender said:
“Not really. You don’t know what’s true and what’s not. So there’s no real point talking about it.”
The defender also spoke about his earlier days, he added:
“The way I play now is with a lot of confidence. It’s the complete opposite of what I used to be. I think coming through Brighton the coaches and the people really believed in me.
“I think you get that with playing and at Southampton I was on the sidelines a lot. But I went Brighton and went straight into the team and played.”

Arsenal Fever View:
Ben White will roughly cost £50m, but will be a good addition to the north London club. He can play at centre-back as well as defensive midfield and his ability to stay calm on the ball has helped him to play in multiple positions.
However, a move to the Emirates club will be a big leap for the defender, having spent just one good season in the Premier League. The Englishman will be scrutinized closely and there will be huge pressure on his shoulders. His temperament and ability to adapt to tough conditions will be tested.
The Englishman is neither very tall nor quick but has very good positional sense and is also efficient in reading the game. The north Londoners need a quality defender and Ben White could prove to be the perfect addition. The defender still has plenty of time to develop and Mikel Arteta’s reputation of developing young talents will certainly help him progress in his career.
