Arsenal continued their impressive run of form as they beat Leicester City 2-0 on Saturday and one name that stood out in both attack and defence was that of Nuno Tavares.
The Gunners followed up their win in the EFL Cup over Leeds United by going to the King Power Stadium and getting the better of the Foxes. Mikel Arteta and his players haven’t been able to dominate the Community Shield winners in the last few fixtures so, this victory will boost the confidence of everyone at the club.
First-half goals from Gabriel and Emile Smith Rowe allowed the north Londoners to control the game. Though the hosts came storming back, the Emirates club held firm aided by the defence and the goalkeeper.
While a lot of the plaudits rightly went to Aaron Ramsdale for his outstanding performance that included some jaw-dropping saves, there was another impressive performer. Tavares proved that he was defensively smart as the youngster dealt with the Leicester attacks down the left flank.
And in attack, his quality on the ball has always been evident and this proved to be a useful outlet. Filling in for Kieran Tierney is not an easy task but the Portuguese youngster has shown that he can do the job and be good at it.
This was noticed by Arsenal fans who have been hugely impressed by the 21-year-old. They showed their love for the young star on Twitter and here are some of the best reactions:
Unpopular opinion but for me Nuno Tavares cannot be dropped for KT.

Arsenal Fever View:
Finding a player to fill in for Tierney was one of the objectives before the start of the season. And to the credit of the north Londoners, they identified a player with great potential and signed him for a low fee. It is the kind of smart business that needs to be done more often.
As for Tavares, it is not known when Tierney will be back and ready to play. Given that Arsenal have a quality backup in the squad, they would be wise to let the Scot take as much time as needed to recover. In the meantime, the Portugal international would be looking to make another appearance in the Premier League.
