Arsenal confident of landing Kieran Tierney with fresh £20m bid

Kieran Tierney

Arsenal are understood to be preparing an improved bid for Kieran Tierney and are confident that they can convince Celtic into reaching a transfer agreement.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is keen on strengthen the backline during the ongoing transfer window after the club conceded 51 goals from 38 Premier League games last season.

As such, the left-back position has been identified as an area of concern with Nacho Monreal showing a drop in performance levels while Sead Kolasinac has struggled when it comes to the defensive side of his game.

According to The Daily Record, Tierney has been earmarked as the prime choice to strengthen the left side of the backline and the Gunners are understood to have failed with an opening bid worth £15m.

Nonetheless, the north London side are prepared to make a renewed £20m offer in the next 48 hours and they are sure that the package should prove sufficient to land the defender despite Celtic wanting around £25m for the Scotland international.

The 22-year-old is presently recovering after a double hernia operation but he is expected to return to regular action before the new season, considering he has already reached the final stages of the rehabilitation process.

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners are able to persuade Celtic with their latest offer such that they can discuss personal terms with the Scot, who appears keen on a bigger challenge elsewhere.

Tierney, who has four more years remaining on his Celtic contract, has made 170 appearances for the club since graduating through their youth system.
