Arsenal chief Edu wants former team-mate as next manager after Unai Emery sack

Predicted Arsenal Line-up

It appears that with each passing day, there is a new name being added to the long list of managerial probables at the Emirates.

As per the latest report from the Times via The Sun, one former player that could be making his way back to England might be Patrick Vieira. And he is being championed by none other than current Gunners technical director Edu.

Both Edu and Vieira played together for the club and were a part of the famous Invincibles campaign. And now it is being suggested that Edu is pushing for his former teammate to be made the new manager of the club.

Vieira is now in charge of French club OGC Nice where he has been since the summer of 2018. Before that, he was the manager of American club New York City FC. So, it is not a case of Arsenal wanting someone who has no experience being in charge of a club.

Another one of Edu’s former teammates has been given the reins at the moment. Freddie Ljungberg has found the going tough with the team failing to win both his games in charge. And their failure to win has seen the Gunners in the middle of their worst run of form in decades.

If the board do not do something to stop this kind of form, there is every chance that Arsenal may not finish in the top half of the Premier League. Getting a new manager like Vieira is all well and good but he must have the full backing of the board and not just Edu.

The Gunners need to act quickly so that they can bring back some form of stability to the team. A club like this needs to be competing for the biggest honors in the game. They should not be trying to get out of mid-table mediocrity.

The next man they bring in must be able to turn the tide and it is encouraging that Edu has found someone that he believes is up to the job. Vieira had a legendary career at Arsenal as a player and if he is able to have even have half of that as a manager, this would qualify as a success.
