According to journalist Peter O’Rourke, Arsenal are growing confident in the pursuit of Leicester City ace James Maddison.
The Foxes bought the 24-year-old back in 2018 from Norwich City. The midfielder has become an integral part of the King Power club’s system ever since, scoring 21 goals and notching up 15 assists in 98 Premier League appearances over the past three seasons.
Speaking to The Football Terrace the journalist stated that the north London club are confident of agreeing on a transfer deal with Leicester City to sign Maddison. The Foxes are open to let the Englishman leave this summer if the Emirates club come up with a solid offer.
O’Rourke further claims that Arsenal are also in contact with the player’s representatives. The midfielder desires to join the north London club this summer and is currently waiting to see if both clubs can finalise a deal. The journalist said:
“Maddison, this one’s gathering pace and Arsenal are growing ever more confident that there’s a possibility of a deal happening. I think [encouragement is] coming from both sides to be honest Terry. I think there’s a bit of encouragement from Leicester as well if they offer the right deal they’ll happily take it, but it’ll be on their terms.
“I know his representatives are in ongoing discussions between Arsenal and themselves to see if they can get this deal done and I think the player as well fancies the move. Maybe going to Arsenal and being the main man there.”
Arsenal Fever View:
James Maddison’s signature will be s sign of intent from Arsenal. After finishing eighth in back-to-back seasons, freshening up the squad with new faces was an absolute necessity for the Emirates club.
The 24-year-old will certainly bring creativity and goal threat from midfield. He has a very good vision to play intricate passes in the final third and can deliver excellent crosses from set pieces. He can shoot from distance and also has the ability to score from free kicks.
The Englishman has created an excellent partnership with Jamie Verdy at the King Power Stadium and the Gunners fans will be hoping he can replicate that with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Emirates. However, the midfielder struggled with fitness issues last season and was sidelined for a while with injuries.
The midfielder’s arrival will provide spring in the forwards’ steps as they will get more services from deep. Should the north London club sign all of their targets this summer they can certainly mount a run towards the top four spots. However, bringing in the Leicester man will not be easy for the Emirates club.
