Arsenal are reportedly showing active interest in signing Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez as per the Scottish journalist Peter O’Rourke.
The Argentine joined the Italian giants back in 2018 from Racine Club. The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar couple of seasons under Antonio Conte, scoring 31 goals and assisting nine times in 73 Serie A appearances over the past two campaigns. The forward was instrumental in the Nerazzurri’s 19th Serie A triumph last season.
Speaking to The Football Terrace, the journalist claimed that the north London club are actively pursuing Martinez this summer and are pushing to get this deal over the line.
O’Rourke further stated that Inter value their asset at around £77 million, however, the Emirates club haven’t been put off by the mentioned fee and are looking for an inventive way to finalize a deal.
They are also prepared to add Hector Bellerin as a makeweight to land the Argentina international at north London, as the Italian club are showing interest in the Spaniard this summer. The journalist said:
“It seems really serious interest from Arsenal in the Inter Milan striker Laurato Martinez. Arsenal really seem to be trying to push for this deal to see if there’s any way to make it happen.
“His price tag is pretty steep. You’re talking around £77m that Inter would want to sell the South American. That hasn’t really deterred Arsenal so far, they’re just trying to come up with inventive ways they could come to an agreement with Inter Milan and they think the ace up their sleeve is Hector Bellerin.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Lautaro Martínez will be a very good addition to Mikel Arteta’s attacking disposal, given that Alexandre Lacazette is being linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium. The Argentine’s signature will be a sign of intent from the north London club.
The 23-year-old has showcased his talent in the Italian league and also in Copa America. The forward certainly can find the back of the net on the biggest stage of world football and hasn’t reached his prime yet. The Argentine would make the Gunners attack world-class, with Nicholas Pepe on one side and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the other.
However, it will be interesting to see if the forward can lead the line by himself or not. The Inter man usually plays alongside Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro stadium where the Belgian is the main man and the youngster performs as the secondary striker. So, there could be a question mark about his capability to lead the line being a lone striker.
Nevertheless, Lautaro Martinez will be an outstanding addition to the forward line of Arsenal. Lacazette is linked with a move away from the Emirates club and Aubameyang has entered his thirties and endured a poor season last term. So, it is an absolute necessity to strengthen the forward line with a world-class talent like the Argentine.
