Alexandre Lacazette could leave Arsenal very soon, claims Romano

Welbeck and Lacazette

Speaking on the Arsenal Lounge, journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Alexandre Lacazette could be leaving Arsenal in the next few days.

The Frenchman along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were missing from the matchday squad last weekend, reportedly due to illness. The duo are also expected to miss the clash against Chelsea on Sunday.

There has been speculation that the duo could be on their way out of north London. With regards to this, Romano told Arsenal Lounge:

“I’m told they are sick. I would keep an eye on Lacazette more than Aubameyang because there is a chance that Lacazette will be leaving Arsenal in the next days.”

There are reports that Lacazette is being considered as an option for Barcelona who are looking for attacking reinforcements after the departure of Lionel Messi.

While there have been rumours relating to both the forwards, it makes more sense for the club to let go of Lacazette. The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract and with no discussions taking place over a new deal, it would be the best course of action.

There is another purpose this would serve as the north Londoners would get important funds that can be used to bring in other players. There are positions to be filled in the squad and making sales will certainly help in achieving that.

Lacazette has been a fine player for the Emirates club but the striker was never able to reach the level that was expected when he signed in the summer of 2017. There have been games where his quality shone through but he has always struggled in terms of consistency.

The north London club need to be ruthless in overhauling their squad as they are falling into mediocrity. This is the last transfer window where Arsenal can fetch a good deal for their striker. The potential departure of Lacazette may open up an opportunity to bring in another forward and that could be exciting.
