Hector Bellerin is the first choice right-back but Mathieu Debuchy has signalled a desire to leave this January so he can attempt to salvage his hopes of being picked by France for the World Cup.
Whereas some reports are also linking Hector Bellerin to Barcelona after Aleix Vidal failed in his attempt to capture the right-back position left by Dani Alves.
Bellerin moved to the Emirates Stadium at the tender age of 16 from La Masia and has turned down the opportunity to return to Camp Nou on more than one occasion – the latest being in the latest transfer window.
Barca have made the Gunners full-back their top transfer target, with Luis Enrique and club technical secretary Roberto Fernandez united in their desire to bring Bellerin to the Nou Camp.
Experienced defender Darijo Srna is a target for Arsenal, report Russian newspaper Izvestia. Srna is out of contract next summer and could even sign a pre-contract agreement with the Gunners in January.
At 34 years old and in his 13th season with Shakhtar Donetsk, the Croatian fits the profile of a good, cheap option out wide, and his club would not stand in the way of a move.
Srna’s agent Damir Simace admitted recently to Sportske Novosti saying:
The rumours I have read in the news are not false
He is an attacking full-back who can even play on the wing, and has 127 international caps for Croatia.
He has been excellent throughout his career and if Arsenal sign him in the January transfer window, he would be cup tied for Champions League with Shakhtar Donetsk and cannot play for Arsenal in the Cup matches.
Apparently, Barcelona are also interested in him if a deal for Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin fails to materialize, although they have Aleix Vidal and Douglas to play in and compete for that position.
