Whenever there is a transfer window open, there is one thing that is certain to happen and that would be Arsenal getting linked to any and every player.
Now, most of these rumors have to be taken with a pinch of salt, as their reliability is always in question. And in that vein, this summer has seen the Gunners linked with many many players.
One of them has caught many fans by surprise. A turn of events could lead to Arsenal signing a Manchester City legend.
It is well known how Pep Guardiola and Yaya Toure have had quite a public fallout. A lot of accusations have been thrown around by the player ever since he has left the club.
The speculation of him joining has gone into overdrive ever since his agent, Dimitri Seluk gave an explosive interview. According to Euro Sport, He said:
“Yaya has received many offers from different countries, big money offers, but we have decided to devote the next season to Guardiola.”
“To prove to the Manchester City fans that Yaya is not finished with football. He is full of strength and energy and wants to play in England this season.”
He also went on to add that: “At a time when English clubs are spending huge sums of money on players, I officially declare that Yaya is ready to move to any top-six English club as a free agent with a salary of £1 per week. As long as a success-based bonus system is in place.”
This surely sounds like an exciting deal for a top-six club. Now, that figure may sound a little outlandish but it goes to show how badly Toure and his agent want to prove Pep wrong. Whether he will be able to replicate his heyday is in question. But, one thing is for sure. Whoever ends up signing him will have a player in their ranks with a point to prove.
And another aspect that makes this deal enticing is the way the payment to the player would be structured. The club wouldn’t have to pay a lot and could even implement a pay as you play kind of deal. As for the Gunners, with the departure of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere seemingly on his way, it could be a deal they look into.
