Switzerland’s opening game in the group stage against Brazil, was the first glimpse that many Arsenal fans had of Stephan Lichsteiner.
The score ended up 1-1 after a stunning first-half strike from Philippe Coutinho was canceled out by Steven Zuber’s header from a corner in the 50th minute.
The former Juventus player would have been a free agent in the summer. After spending seven seasons in Turin and winning the title every year, he surely has got a winning mentality. That was probably what Unai Emery wanted to instill early on in his new team.
The fans had a lot of interesting reactions to the player’s performance against a strong Brazil lineup. Many were genuinely surprised at how good he played given the fact that he was facing the dual threat of Marcelo and Neymar.
Lichsteiner became the first signing of the Unai Emery era. Based on his performance against the South American side, it is safe to say that he will be able to provide excellent backup and guidance to Hector Bellerin.
Here are some of the best reactions from fans:

Can not understand why everyone thinks #Lichtsteiner will automatically be@back-up. No chance! He is going to push #Bellerin hard #worldcup2018 #afc #arsenal

There were a few fans who were not particularly impressed with the veteran full back, but they were few and far between.
It has to be said that the performance was certainly an encouraging one as it is not easy to defend against the might of the Brazilian team.
Even at such a late stage in his career, Lichtsteiner has shown that he can still bomb up and down the pitch. Arsenal fans will be hoping that this will translate to the Emirates as well.
