Arsenal have been urged to sign Newcastle United star forward Alexander Isak by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on his FIVE podcast.
The Swede moved to England in the summer of 2022 and has proven to be an instant hit with his combination of skill and strength. He has already matched his Premier League goal tally of last season and it looks like the 24-year-old is headed for greater heights.
Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand had this to say about the striker:
“Alexander Isak was running in behind constantly [against Manchester City], if I’m Arsenal, I’m going all out and buying him.”
One reason why Newcastle might sell their star is because of the financial situation they find themselves in. To this, Ferdinand added:
“Why? They can’t spend… they’re struggling with [profit and sustainability rules].”
Arsenal Fever View:
If the Gunners did manage to get enough funds to sign the Swedish international, it would be quite a coup. As Isak is a player who is entering his prime, this would be the perfect time to bring him to the Emirates.
Though the north Londoners have a top-class forward in Gabriel Jesus, adding another star would only elevate the attack. One aspect that might complicate this transfer is the competition that will be present.
There are a lot of teams that would want a forward of the calibre of Isak and they might be willing to pay that little extra to get the deal over the line. But if the Gunners want to take that next step forward and win the league, a move like this makes that happen.
Given how finances are tight at the moment, it is unlikely that a move will take place in January. Any potential transfer will have to wait until the summer as that will give both clubs some wiggling room to be better placed in the market.
Arsenal know that they are not very far away from winning the big trophies, they just need that little extra to push them in front of others. That can certainly come in the form of a player such as Isak who has that special quality in front of goal.
