Arsenal won the transfer market, and Jesus was their trophy! All you need to know!
The Brazilian who stole the spotlight at Manchester City, Gabriel Jesus, is now a Gunner’ after Arsenal completed the signing for £45m. The deal shook the transfer market as the striker chose the Emirates club.
The timelines of Arsenal and Jesus add up – both wanting to write a story of their revival, and there couldn’t have been a better connection. The 25-year-old, who recently won the Premier League title with Manchester City, is making a bold move as he looks to craft a story that English football remembers.
And Arsenal has set the stage for this story.
After spending nearly five seasons at the Etihad, winning several trophies, and scoring 95 goals in 236 games, Jesus looks to deliver success for his new side. A four-time league winner at City, Jesus was an incredible sight to watch in his first season, bringing in a new wave of hope for Arsenal ticket holders, who finished fifth last season.
The five-year deal with Arsenal ensures he is here to win trophies and settle for nothing less. Arsenal hasn’t been the side they were in the early 2000s, and the last few years have been a misery for everyone that purchased Arsenal tickets.
There were some memorable days, such as the FA Cup win in 2020, but they’ve been nowhere near the heavyweights in English football in recent times.
One might question the decision of Jesus, having won the league title after another, wanting to move to Arsenal, who’ve barely been able to pick themselves up. On top of that, Jesus might be missing out on UEFA Champions League football, a tournament he’s consistently played during his time with City.
Mikel Arteta’s influence
In his first interview with the club, Jesus cited that his close relationship with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was the primary reason he decided to move. Arteta was assistant to Guardiola at City for three years and played a role in getting the Brazilian up and running at the Etihad. Jesus said:
“He(Mikel) helped me a lot(at City). We would stick together after the training sessions and do some finishing or something….”
“If he knows something, he can teach the young players or me.”
Jesus further adds that he admires the London club and will still play in the same league that has been his home for quite some time.
“I am happy to sign for this big club. Since day 1, when I knew I could play for Arsenal, I was happy.”
With the likes of other Brazilian players such as Martinelli and Magalhaes, both Gabriels, Jesus will feel at home. In his interview, the striker added that he felt at home at Arsenal.
In the January transfer window, Arsenal let go of their captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with bad blood built between him and the management. That impacted the side in big games, and now with Jesus, the striker woes should be finally over.
Erling Haaland transfer
City made a massive leap in getting the sensational Erling Haaland. He has performed beyond expectations at Borussia Dortmund, and City had to go deep to secure his transfer.
The hype around Haaland meant that Jesus wouldn’t be the default choice, and this would’ve accelerated his move to Arsenal. Although that might not give the whole picture, City manager Guardiola provided the Brazilian with ample opportunities last season with Sergio Aguero gone, starting him in several high-profile games, including the UEFA Champions League semifinals. At the same time, Jesus justified his place in the team with 13 goals and 12 assists, which he failed to deliver consistently.
Now, however, Jesus will be looking to deliver success for his new side as the Gunners are looking for Champions League football and eventually challenge for trophies once again.
After the disastrous end to last year’s campaign as Arsenal bottled their chances to finish fourth, there was a wave of negativity surrounding everyone that purchased Arsenal tickets. Jesus now is Arsenal’s savior, to resurrect faith back to everyone purchasing Arsenal tickets.
Arteta’s Dream XI is starting to take shape
By the looks of it, Arteta is slowly creating the team he had long-awaited to compile.
Arsenal’s defense picked itself up after their wrecking start, and Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes built a solid defense partnership to aid goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. In the meantime, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney showed class at full-back.
Martin Odegaard and Youri Tielemans could come in handy in the midfield, while the front line now looks way more dominant with Jesus.
Jesus will have the reliable and emerging Hale End Academy player Bukayo Sako. Arteta has always praised Saka and opted to play him in all 38 games in the Premier League last season.
There are still a few more signings heading their way, and it seems like Arsenal has won the transfer market.
Jesus, a Golden Boot candidate?
While it is too early to jump into predictions, Jesus could ideally be a Golden Boot candidate if things go right for the Gunners’. The striker used to reach double digits in terms of goals for City in the Premier League every season but never was in contention of becoming the top goalscorer with him not getting enough game time.
But things can change this year as Arteta looks to play him as a first-choice striker.
It has always been the likes of Harry Kane, Salah, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amongst the forwards who’ve competed for the Golden Boot in the last few seasons. However, this year could be different.
With the new Man City recruit in Arsenal colors and Erling Haaland at Man City, the race for the Golden Boot could get quite interesting. It is too early to predict and depends on how well Jesus adopts, but it isn’t something you shouldn’t consider.
