Arsenal host Leicester City on Sunday as they get ready for a crucial week in the race for the top four, so let’s take a look at the predicted lineup.
The Gunners were excellent going forward against the Hornets but defensively there were quite a few lapses in concentration. If that were to happen against the Foxes, they have the players to punish the hosts.
Aaron Ramsdale will once again be the first name on the team sheet. There is a doubt over the fitness of Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cedric could get another game as the right back. On the left, it will be the dependable presence of Kieran Tierney.
The centre back pairing of Ben White and Gabriel had a few nervy moments against Watford and the duo would look to be at their best against Leicester. Their passing skills are going to be needed to break down Brendan Rodgers’ plans.
In midfield, Arteta has the simple task of selecting the deadly combo of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka. These two are crucial in helping the north Londoners establish a tempo. And apart from their passing, it is their ability to protect the defence that will be needed.
Given that the hosts also play Liverpool in a few days, there is a good chance that Gabriel Martinelli is rested for this match. That would see Emile Smith Rowe return to the left hand side of the attack. The other two are going to be Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. Both Saka and Smith Rowe have been the club’s leading force in front of goal and more of that will be needed.
Up front, captain Alexandre Lacazette will lead the attack as his all-round game will be at the forefront of what Arsenal do. If he can get on the ball regularly, it gives the Gunners a great chance of opening up Leicester. The hosts find themselves in a good position with regards to returning to the Champions League and a win here would do wonders.
