According to Fichajes, Arsenal are interested in signing Marcos Asensio this summer, as the club look to bolster their midfield options before the transfer window shuts in ten days.
The 25-year-old joined Real Madrid in 2014 and broke onto the scene in 2015-16, scoring four goals and assisting 12 times. Since then, the midfielder has gone on to make 194 appearances for the Los Blancos.
Although the Spaniard had an impressive start to life in Madrid, Asensio has not been able to realize his true potential due to injury-plagued seasons.
Fichajes claims that the Spanish giants are not looking to offload the midfielder this summer, however, a sizable offer could lure them into selling their asset. He has also attracted admiring glances from Tottenham and Liverpool, but the Gunners remain the frontrunners to land him.
The report further adds that the North Londoners have made contact with Real Madrid over this potential transfer deal. The Spanish outfit are expecting a fee in the region of £35million to begin negotiations for their star.
Arsenal’s relationship with them have been good following the successful negotiations for Martin Odegaard. This favorable situation has encouraged them to pursue their interests in Asensio.
Arsenal Fever View:
The Emirates club have been one of the busiest clubs in this transfer window. They have spent over £120m to complete five signings and the summer overhaul looks to be well and truly underway. One of the new signings is Asensio’s teammate, Martin Odegaard.
With the signing of Odegaard, there prevails a doubt about the need for another creative midfielder. It is also important to bear in mind that the Gunners also have another talented midfielder in Emile Smith Rowe. The Real Madrid man is, undoubtedly, one of the best in the business, but injuries have hindered his progress.
The transfer fee demanded by Real Madrid is an awful lot of money for a player that has been injury-prone in recent seasons. Considering the pace and physicality of the Premier League, it will take some time before the Spaniard can hit the ground running.
The Gunners are in dire need of investment in other areas of the pitch. With just ten days left to complete crucial incomings and outgoings, it would be sensible if they set their sights on other players that can really push the team for the coveted top-four finish this season.
