talkSPORT pundit Danny Mills has questioned the ambitions of Brighton defender Ben White who is on the verge of completing a move to Arsenal.
The Gunners are closing in on a deal for the 23-year-old with negotiations reaching the final stages and initial paperwork has already been signed between the two clubs. The defender has opted to join the north London club despite interest from other Premier League clubs.
However, former Manchester City and Leeds United defender Danny Mills has questioned the Brighton man’s decision to choose Arsenal over other big clubs. The pundit said that the England international is a much better player and deserves to play at a bigger club.
Mills further stated that there will be very little chance for the north London club to win the league title any time soon while a Champions League title is still a distant dream. The former defender has also questioned the Brighton man’s ambition. Speaking to talkSport, he said:
“I think he is better than that at the moment. What is he going to win at Arsenal? The League Cup if he is lucky. Maybe the FA Cup? It’s going to be a while before Arsenal win a Champions League. Winning the Premier League, you’re looking probably seven or eight years down the line, he might be retiring before that stage.
“I think he is an exceptional player and a fantastic signing for Arsenal. I think he’s better than Arsenal right now. I just wonder what his ambitions are. I’m surprised bigger and better clubs with more of a chance to win something haven’t come in for him.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Despite the recent downfall, the north London club are still one of the most renowned clubs in the world. They have won more trophies in recent years than few other big clubs. So, Ben White’s decision to choose the Emirates club over others isn’t a bad one.
The Gunners are looking to build a squad that can compete at the highest level and under Mikel Arteta’s guidance that could be the case with proper investments. Arsenal are looking to overhaul their squad this summer and they are expected to invest heavily.
Arteta’s side have already secured deals for Nuno Tavares and Sambi Lokonga. White is the next in line for the north London club. They are also looking to sign a new creative midfielder with James Maddison and Houssem Aouar being the rumoured targets.
Should they secure all of their targets this summer, they will definitely make a run for the top four spots next season. After failing to qualify for the European football, they will only have to focus on the Premier League which might prove to be beneficial for Arteta’s side. Securing the Champions League spot will be the sign of progression and the Emirates club could build on from there.
