After reports emerged that Arsenal were planning a move for James Maddison, Leicester City legend Gary Lineker took a dig at the Gunners.
The Englishman has been a revelation ever since making the move from Norwich City. He has gone to become a vital cog in Brendan Rodgers’ setup at the King Power stadium.
Popular Twitter handle The AFCBell posted an update on the Maddison situation. They claimed that the player’s representatives are expecting a move and the north Londoners have offered a four-year deal.
This offer would double the midfielder’s salary and a proposal is in the works. Lineker didn’t take to this news kindly as he tweeted a dig at the Gunners. The pundit said:
From my experience, taking a backward step never ends well. @Madders10 https://t.co/3KmIAWxzyq

This did not go down well with the fans of the north London club who were quick to retort. Here are some of the best reactions:

Arsenal Fever View
Despite what the former England great has to say, this is not going to be a downgrade for the midfielder. Though the Foxes have finished higher up the table in recent seasons, Arsenal are a much bigger club.
And from a squad point of view, this signing would make perfect sense as Maddison is the type of player that is needed at the Emirates. His directness, ability to shoot with both feet and from anywhere added to his passing make the 24-year-old a complete package.
It would certainly upgrade the Gunners attack and solve the creativity problem that was present last season. Also, another advantage of bringing in the Leicester midfielder is that it reduces the pressure on Emile Smith-Rowe.
There are no concrete links that suggest the Gunners are readying a move but the thought of it is definitely exciting. If the club can pull it off, it would be a real statement of intent and show the rest of the league what the north Londoners can do. Maddison would be a great signing for Arsenal, but is going to cost a lot. If they do go ahead with it, that would be a sign of improving the squad which will make fans happy.
