Arsenal are reportedly willing to trigger the release clause of Alexander Isak, according to a report in AS.
After making the move from AIK to Borussia Dortmund, the 21-year-old struggled to showcase his talent in the Bundesliga. Following an unproductive couple of seasons, the forward was sold to Real Sociedad.
Since then, Isak has found his feet for La Real and had a scintillating 2020-21 season, scoring 17 goals in 34 La Liga appearances.
According to the report in the Spanish outlet, Arsenal had a meeting with the forward’s representatives and the club have stated that if the Sweden international wants to play in north London then they are ready to trigger his £59m million release clause.
However, the report further claims that Real Madrid are ready to go head-to-head with the Emirates club in the pursuit of Isak. Los Blancos have contacted the 21-year-old’s entourage and enquired if the player is available this summer. The forward would certainly be a cheaper alternative to Erling Braut Haaland or Kylian Mbappe.
Arsenal Fever View:
Alexander Isak could be a perfect replacement for Alexandre Lacazette who has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium. The 21-year-old is quick, strong and also has very good close control.
However, having played for Real Sociedad, the forward has not been tested enough against deep line defences. The Gunners will face low blocks almost every week in the Premier League and it remains to be seen how effective the youngster will be in these situations.
Nevertheless, the forward has ample time to develop and will have the luxury to blossom under Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s tutelage. The Swedish international will provide the energy during the high-press which is one of the trademarks of Arteta’s playing style.
Alexander Isak will be a very good addition to Arsenal’s forward line. The front-three of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Isak might make the fans very excited for the future. But, they will need time to flourish and reach their full potential. Having enjoyed an excellent season for Real Sociedad, there will always be a doubt whether the player can replicate that performance in a different league and different atmosphere.
