Arsenal are looking to strengthen their left-back position and Hibernian defender Josh Doig is reportedly one of the targets, as per journalist Chris Wheatley.
The 19-year-old broke out onto the scene this season and has become the Scottish club’s first-choice left-back. The youngster also played a key role in taking his club to the final of the Scottish Cup.
Journalist Chris Wheatley revealed the Gunners’ interest in signing the youngster who will cost £5m. He tweeted the following:
“Arsenal have two or three targets for each position they’re looking to strengthen in. Hibernian have set an asking price of £5m (plus sell-on clause) for highly-rated left back Josh Doig, although #AFC have yet to make an offer him.”
He also spoke about why the north Londoners are interested in the Scot. He added:
“Those close to Doig don’t think he’ll end up at Arsenal, but with the club looking for a young profile left-back a move for the Scottish defender would make sense.”

Former Arsenal star Matt Lacey has recently lauded the youngster as an ‘unbelievable talent. According to Daily Record, he said:
“He’s been unbelievable. Since I have come in, he has played almost every game and to have that level of consistency at that age is not something I have seen before.”

If indeed the Gunners are on the lookout for a young full-back, the Hibs defender would be a wise choice. If he moves from Edinburgh to London, the young defender will deputise for his countryman.
It is important for the north Londoners to get a backup for Kieran Tierney next season. The defence lost balance when the full-back missed a few games last season and that needs to be avoided.
At the age of 19, Doig has the potential to develop into a fine defender. He has the ability to close down attackers and put in great tackles which is a useful asset to have.
He also fulfills the north Londoners requirement of signing a young full-back. The price being quoted isn’t high by any stretch of the imagination and it would be a welcome move if things work out.
Arsenal have an opportunity to plug a big hole in their squad and can do it for cheap. Getting Doig to the Emirates would represent some smart business from the north Londoners.
