After returning to winning ways against West Bromwich Albion, Arsenal will look to keep their winning run going when they meet Chelsea on Wednesday in the Premier League.
The North London club ended last week on a high following a heartbreaking exit from the Europa League in midweek. The Emirates club beat the Baggies 3-1 thanks to goals from Emile Smith-Rowe, Nicolas Pepe and Willian.
Regarding the team news, David Luiz is expected to miss the game against his former side following a hamstring injury that the defender suffered against Newcastle United. Fellow defender Pablo Mari missed Sunday’s game after spraining his ankle during the Villarreal game and is a doubt to start.
Granit Xhaka is uncertain to play after suffering a groin injury just before last week’s match against the Yellow Submarines. Emile Smith-Rowe picked up a hamstring injury at the weekend and will be assessed ahead of this big encounter.
On the other hand, Chelsea will be without Andreas Christensen who sustained a thigh injury against Manchester City and Thiago Silva is expected to replace him following a much-needed break at the weekend. Thomas Tuchel provided affirmative news on the injury of Mateo Kovacic but it will be too early for him to start.
It won’t be an easy task for the North Londoners to beat Chelsea like they did back in December. The Blues have become much more solid and cohesive under their new manager Thomas Tuchel.
Mikel Arteta’s side will have to be wary about the attacking threat of the Blues and need to be at the top of their game to break the hosts stubborn defensive structure.
Regardless of the terrific form of the South-West Londoners, Arsenal can’t afford to drop points on Wednesday night. They need a win to keep their slim chance of qualifying for the Europa League. With just three games left in the season, the Gunners need to end the season with a flourish to raise the morale of the club.
