BBC Football expert Mark Lawrenson has stated his prediction for tomorrow’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners are one on the in-form teams in the top-flight with 16 points gained from the previous six matches and only leaders Manchester City have fared better with a 100 percent record.
Hence, they should go into the Red Devils clash with confidence and have the opportunity to do the league double over their fierce rivals for the first time since the 2006/07 campaign.
Ahead of the game, Lawrenson has provided his matchday predictions and he has backed the Gunners to secure a 2-1 triumph over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
“They have been playing really well of late, ignoring their FA Cup defeat at Southampton last weekend when Mikel Arteta picked a weakened team,” He told BBC Sport.
“Manchester United were poor in their defeat against Sheffield United on Wednesday, and we have seen that sort of home performance from them too often this season.
“Away from home they have been much better, but the Gunners beat them at Old Trafford in November and I have a feeling they will take the three points at Emirates Stadium too.”
Arsenal have impressed both defensively and offensively over the past month and they will head into the Red Devils clash with the momentum on their side.
However, they can’t anticipate an easy encounter against United, who until last weekend were top of the Premier League standings after a 13-match unbeaten league run.
Looking at the positives, the Gunners were the previous side to beat the Red Devils in the league before they succumbed to the shock 2-1 loss to Sheffield United at Old Trafford in midweek.
Arteta will be hoping that he can pick his best team for the game. The likes of Kieran Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey may require late fitness tests to determine their involvement.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been absent for the past two games due to his mother’s illness. He could be available for the United game and the decision may eventually lie on Arteta.
