Bukayo Saka has been one of the most impressive performers for Arsenal this season and already has 8 assists to his name to go along with a few goals.
The 18-year-old who normally operates as a winger has also filled in at left-back and shown admirable poise and calmness in the defensive part of his game.
But with the youngster entering the final 18 months of his contract, there is interest beginning to grow from other clubs. Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour was speaking to talkSPORT about Saka’s contract situation and this is what he said:
“Saka was excellent again on the left-hand side, he had another really good game
“I think he has to get tied down now on a new contract. I think they are trying to organize it at the moment.”
It has been a brilliant first season for the 18-year-old youngster after being officially promoted into the first-team squad in the summer. He also proved his versatility, first displaying his offensive qualities earlier in the season and then seamlessly transitioning into defense under Arteta.
There is rumored to be interest from both Manchester United and Premier League leaders Liverpool. But it would be in the best interest of the North London club to act quickly and make sure that Saka stays in London for years to come.
Arsenal are infamous for failing to tie down their talent to long-term contracts. They shouldn’t allow the talks to delay until the summer when Saka will have just one year remaining and there will be many top clubs vying to prise him away.
It should actually a no-brainer decision for the club. A youngster who is starting week-in and week-out and making a huge statement with his performances, all despite playing out of position.
There is a very talented group of youngsters coming through at the Emirates right now. With Saka leading the way alongside Gabriel Martinelli, the future promises to be bright. Every week, a different young player is blossoming and that in itself is a mouth-watering prospect for the future.
