After the Gunners sacked manager Unai Emery, everyone has been waiting with bated breath to see who will replace him at Arsenal.
Though we have seen many names being linked with the job, there may be a wild card in the pack. Former Valencia manager Marcelino who left the Spanish club in September is in London, according to reports in Super Deporte.
The report states that Marcelino has made his way to the English capital ahead of the Gunners’ match against West Ham United which will take place on Monday.
The Arsenal job is not the only one he is being linked with at the moment. After the departure of Marco Silva, it is suggested that Everton are also going to be looking at bringing him in.
Marcelino’s time at Valencia was brief but it was successful as he was able to get the team back into the Champions League. To top it off, he won the Copa Del Rey where Valencia overcame the much fancied Barcelona. It was a surprise to see him leave the club during the initial stages of this season.
The North London club need to get someone in as soon as possible to prevent the club from regressing any further. If they believe that Marcelino is the man to do that, then they should appoint him quickly. There is no point in delaying an appointment any more as that is only going to hurt the club even more.
Marcelino is a talented coach who garnered praise for his team’s ability to play attacking football and he brought silverware back to Valencia after a long time. This shows that he can do well at the highest level.
Marcelino might not be the most exciting choice that is available for the Gunners out there but it can prove to be a good one. One of the main requirements for the club would be to get back into the Champions League. If the Spaniard is able to do this, it will vindicate the faith that the board seems to have in him and prove that they know what they are doing.
