A section of the Arsenal fans have posed question marks over the future of Mesut Ozil following his below-par performance in the Europa League final against Chelsea on Wednesday night.
The former Germany international was entrusted with the number 10 role for the final, but he struggled to make a meaningful impact for the time he was on the field.
Ultimately, the north London side suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat which also ended their prospects of returning to the Champions League, and some fans have been critical over the German’s showing.

Seriously though what are we actually going to do with Ozil? It’s a bigger problem than most think, he offers us nothing anymore, especially in this system where asked to press. Ramsey fit it so much better. Can’t have someone who should be regarded as a squad player on 350k pw.

Been a big Ozil fan and he has deserved criticism that’s been fair, but with 13 mins to and your subbed to stroll off like that was an absolute disgrace. ((The other 10 aren’t immune to being dug out as well))
But that’s the last time he should kick a ball for us again.— Darren (@DarrenArsenal1) May 29, 2019
When we signed 24 year old Ozil, I never thought his career would end like this. He arrived as a legend of the game and will leave as a record breaker, but with a damaged reputation.

And I’m sorry. I rate the guys talents massively. But Mesut Ozil fanboys. You have to give over now. It was like playing with 10 men tonight. Joe Willock had more impact on the game in a 10minute cameo than Ozil has had the last 2 months.
We can’t carry him for another season.

Too much defending of Ozil. If a player doesn’t turn up in a final, that’s bad enough. Worse that our main man is on £350,000 a week. If he can’t do it in Europa, what makes you think he will step up in the Champions League

Ozil has undoubtedly struggled under the guidance of manager Unai Emery and he ended the campaign with just three assists across all competitions, which presents his worst-ever tally in a single season with the club.
As such, there are no surprises over the recent criticism from a section of the fans and it remains to be seen whether the German has a future with the club after struggling to showcase his creative best through the season.
With the lack of Champions League football, Arsenal are likely to work on a limited budget for the summer and any additional funds could be dependent on the potential sale of unwanted players within the squad.
Mohamed Elneny and Shkodran Mustafi have been mentioned as potential candidates, who could be shown the exit door and it will be interesting to see how the club deal with Ozil’s situation, considering the midfielder is said to have no plans of parting ways with the club this summer.
