A section of the Arsenal fans were delighted with the performance of midfielder Mesut Ozil during the club’s routine 2-0 league win over Newcastle United on Monday night.
Ozil was afforded with a fourth straight start for the Gunners across all competitions yesterday and he produced a solid display to bag the man of the match accolade.
The German did not contribute a goal or an assist during the game, but he was a constant presence in the attack front with his movement and distribution, which kept the Magpies’ backline on their feet.
Ozil ended the game with the most touches and crosses in the opposition half alongside 12 ball recoveries, and the fans were impressed with the improved workrate showcased by the 30-year-old.

Ozil has been in-and-out of the starting lineup under Unai Emery through the season, but that has changed of late with the Spaniard pleased that the midfielder is adjusting to the tactical demands on the playing field.
With the Magpies triumph, the Gunners have leapfrogged both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United to the third position in the standings and they now hold a two-point advantage over the above-mentioned duo.
Next up, they have an away game against Everton at the weekend and the match could offer them with the chance to further extend the gap over their top-four rivals while bettering their own away record.
Unai Emery’s side have been largely unproductive on the road with just the solitary triumph this year but they have the opportunity to improve the statistic at Everton, where they have generally excelled over the years.
