Arsenal in talks to sign Caglar Soyuncu, defender already confirmed he wants to join

Caglar Soyuncu

The major focus of Arsenal’s transfer activity thus far has been focused on the defense as evidenced by the signings of Stephan Lichsteiner and Bernd Leno.

There may be another player added to that list in the form of Caglar Soyuncu who plays for Freiburg, according to reports in Sky Sports.

Despite the impending arrival of Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund, the Gunners would like to add one more center back to the mix. And the Turkish man is identified as that player, particularly by Sven Mislintat who has been a big fan of the £35m star for a long time.

His performances in the Bundesliga have been very impressive and this has caught the attention of a number of top European clubs including Premier League teams Manchester United and Chelsea. This shows the quality that Soyuncu has and he will surely be a good addition to the team.

The player has already expressed his desire to play for the Gunners even so far as going to say:

“I want Arsenal. God willing I will go to Arsenal or the Premier League but it all depends on Freiburg.”

This is a good sign given that the club wants to bring Soyuncu to the Emirates. Though he is a key member of the Freiburg squad, it is believed that Arsenal have what it takes to bring him to the squad.

Reinforcements to the defense are required especially after the retirement of Per Mertesacker and the injury suffered by Laurent Koscielny. As a result of this, the defense is lacking a little in terms of experience. That will be taken care of with the signings of Sokratis and Lichsteiner so it makes sense that Arsenal are targeting someone younger like Soyuncu.

It would be better if the deal gets completed as soon as possible as the more this drags on, there is a possibility that the deal will not happen. Soyuncu has become a key player for his national team and Arsenal fans will be hoping that he will come to the Emirates and continue his progress.
