Arsenal have reportedly sent a medical team to Russia to give Lucas Torreira his medical test before he joins the North London club.
The reports come from SampNews24, who report that the deal for the Uruguayan International is worth around €30m and will be completed shortly, bringing the midfielder to the Emirates on a 5-year arrangement.
The outlet is also reporting that the player’s contract will be worth an estimated £2.6m-a-year and it’s likely that the 22-year-old will be an Arsenal player by the end of the world cup.
Yesterday Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist who works with Sky Sports, the Guardian and Di Marzio, claimed the signing has already been completed.
When asked by a fan on Twitter about Torreira making the move to London, Romano said: “[Torreira] is done mate! But I don’t know when [it] will be announced.”
After several long transfer windows with Arsene Wenger, including several transfers made on the last night, the fans will be happy to see that under new manager Unai Emery transfers are happening very quickly.
Emery has already signed the experienced right back, Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus in his first deal since arriving at the Emirates and it is expected that the deals for Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund and Caglar Soyuncu from Freiburg will be announced soon.
Making 36 appearances for Sampdoria this season in the Serie A at 22 years old, Torreira has proved himself a brilliant all-rounder in midfield, making some important offensive contributions, grabbing 4 goals and creating 1 assist this season in the league alone, while also being important in defence, becoming known as a brilliant tackler.
Torreira looks like he could be a brilliant signing for Arsenal, being a perfect replacement for the recently departed Santi Cazorla, and being a wonderful replacement if Jack Wilshere does depart the club this summer.
