Arsenal Forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been prolific for the Gunners ifirsts firs season for the club, has just potentially dropped a huge hint on the signing of Greek center back Sokratis.
The striker played with Sokratis at Borussia Dortmund for over 4 years and just ‘liked’ a post on Instagram discussing Sokratis imminently joining the Gunners.
The post’s caption read ‘With Sokratis close to joining Arsenal, who is excited to see these 3 playing in the same team again?’
This may indicate the striker is in the know about his former teammate joining the North London in this transfer window.
It is believed that the signing of Sokratis will be announced in the coming days, with a reported fee of around £16m, a bargain for the experienced player.
The 29-year-old defender is currently the vice-captain at Dortmund and is believed to be the first signing of Unai Emery. With talks taking place with 34-year-old Stephan Lichtsteiner and more recently 31-year-old Mehdi Benatia, it is believed the new defence will be centered around strong leadership and experienced players.
As well as this, the signing of 22-year-old Caglar Soyuncu is still looking very likely, with the Turkish International confirming that talks will be taking place next week discussing the young player coming to the Emirates for a reported £30m.
With a shockingly poor defensive record for a top side last season, conceding 51 goals in the Premier League alone, Arsenal fans will be relieved to hear that the new manager is taking defensive concerns seriously and bringing in a whole host of experienced players to lead the way.
Some fans are criticising the moves for Benatia and Lichtsteiner saying that the club shouldn’t sign players at the age of 31 or 34, this being said, the signing of Soyuncu is holding Arsene Wenger’s legacy of investment into young players, and Arsenal really need some experience in the defence.
