Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan reacted positively to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s record-breaking performance in the 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
The Gabon international has made a strong start to proceedings since his winter switch, and the Saints game witnessed him break a Premier League record for the club.
The Gunners found themselves 1-0 down within the 17th minute of the game, but Aubameyang came up with the leveller in the 28th minute after a clever finish to beat goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
With the strike, Aubameyang managed to contribute towards his seventh goal (six goals and an assist) in as many as games for the club, and became the first player in the club’s history to achieve this feat.
Here is Morgan’s reaction:
1-1.
At least we have @Aubameyang7.
Such a good player.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) April 8, 2018
Despite arriving in mid-season, Aubameyang has managed to brilliantly acclimatize to the pace of the English game, and the fans will expect more of the same from him for the remainder of the campaign.
Aubameyang’s partnership alongside Alexandre Lacazette was splendid to watch for a short interval versus Stoke, but the supporters may not get another glimpse for a while.
With the Gabonese footballer ineligible for the Europa League, Arsene Wenger has without any question picked Lacazette upfront after his injury comeback, and he will be expected to play a similar role on Thursday.
Arsenal have a comfortable 4-1 lead from the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final versus CSKA, but judging by the Gunners’ away performances this term, Wenger won’t take any risks with the selection.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan injured, Danny Welbeck could get the nod for the starting lineup, and the Englishman appears to have picked up form at the right time with a couple of braces since March.
