Arsene Wenger drops fresh update on Jack Wilshere’s future

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that a contract offer has been placed on the table for Jack Wilshere, and it is up to the Englishman to decide whether he will commit his future on a long-term basis.

The 26-year-old has managed to revive his Gunners career during the ongoing campaign, and his performances since December have led to calls for the club to reward him with a fresh deal.

Wenger had initially suggested that a deal should be sorted out before the end of January, but the wait for an extension appears to be heading into April with the club yet to find a resolution.

Wilshere has around three months left on his existing deal, and in an interview with BeIN Sports, Wenger reiterated his ambition of keeping hold of the midfielder.

He said: “I can only reassure them that I want him to stay and that we make him a proposal. After that, you have to accept as well that Jack is at an age where he will get offers from somewhere else.

“Personally, I think I have put my weight in for him to stay and pushed him to stay. I think he’s an Arsenal man.”

Wilshere has apparently been asked to take a 25 percent reduction on his current £110,000-a-week wages at the Emirates Stadium, and this is something the midfielder does not agree upon.

As a result, we may see the contract talks dragging until the dying stages of the season, but there is the fear that the midfielder may walk away on a Bosman, with contract chief Huss Fahmy reluctant to adjust the wage package on offer.
