Antonio Conte’s disintegrating relationship with Chelsea has signaled the end of his reign either at the end of this season or next.
The Italian has become increasingly unhappy with the clubs transfer dealings and how they are conducted, without his say so.
Things are reported to be so bad that he is barely on speaking terms with owner Roman Abramovich and it’s only a matter of time and the lack of silverware that will push the relationship to a breaking point.
Arsenal are keeping their options open until the end of next season when Arsene Wenger’s contract ends and they are said to be monitoring the situation in case Wenger and the club part Company.
Conte would be considered a fantastic replacement for his enthusiasm, tactical nous and ability to fashion a team that isn’t too far from the Arsenal blueprint. He single-handedly rescued the career of Eden Hazard and turned around the fortunes of a plummeting team by turning them into premier league champions.
However, since then things behind closed doors have taken a turn for the worse and Chelsea’s season and challenge have reflected the conflict.
Those in the know claim that the Italian will be approached at the earliest opportunity if Wenger departs in 2019, however, it will be complicated if the Italian is still in place and will cost Arsenal heavily if they want him to take up the post.
Conte’s recent press conferences have shown his simmering displeasure with how he feels he has been treated and a move to London rivals Arsenal would be hard to resist. He admires the club and how it has supported Wenger and would be assured of his position as an integral part of the club’s restructuring and that he would personally be involved in the transfer process.
The role would certainly be adjusted if he were to take the post and he will not have as much control as Wenger has currently but even so, Conte would be tempted by any offer to such a high profile club, relishing the challenge of taking the Gunners forward.
