The transfer of Aubameyang appears to have taken another twist. As per Exclusive reports in the Telegraph, Dortmund have accepted a £55.4m bid from Arsenal.
However, there are still few major hurdles, the German club want a replacement, with Olivier Giroud being the obvious choice, but Chelsea are also rumoured to be in the hunt for his signature.
The report also states that the Gabonese striker will also become the highest-paid player at Arsenal. His wages will be in excess of £180,000-a-week on a deal which will run until the summer of 2021.
After a week of negotiating, Arsenal have finally upped their bid, perhaps finally realising that you have to pay over the odds to land your man.
Aubameyang has made no secret of his desire to leave the German club and he will be delighted that a solution is finally possible, allowing him to move to the Emirates.
The player will now be looking to make an instant impact and hopefully, his arrival will re-energise the North London clubs lackluster season.
Chelsea have missed out on Dzeko, so they could offer the £35m Arsenal wanted originally for Giroud, so it will be interesting to see whether Dortmund insist on including Giroud in the deal.
However, it’s not going to be easy as Giroud would need to agree, then pass a medical. Aubameyang has apparently agreed personal terms but will also need to pass a medical within the next 24 hours.
At least he played this weekend, so we know that he’s fit. For a change, he wasn’t able to add to his goal scoring tally but no one is perfect.
It’s not only the Telegraph that carries the story, other big media outlets (including BBC Sport and Sky Sports) are reporting that a deal between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund has been agreed, which would make Aubameyang the most expensive signing in the Gunners’ history.
The North London club lost Sanchez to United earlier this month and they will be hoping that the 28-year-old can replace the Chilean. Hopefully, his arrival will reignite the desire and drive to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Players such as Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan could make all the difference to Arsenal in the remaining games in the campaign. Whatever happens, come Wednesday lets hope everyone involved in this calamity is happy. Football is a funny old game.
