Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is reported to be house-hunting in the English capital with Arsenal being associated with his services for the umpteenth time.
The France international has been linked with the Gunners in almost every transfer window, and it is alleged that he is back on the club’s radar owing to Los Blancos’ woes.
According to Don Balon, the France international could push for a switch to the Emirates this month regardless of the Spanish club’s struggles in their domestic and European campaigns this term.
Los Blancos are already 19 points adrift of La Liga leaders Barcelona with a game in hand, and their prospects of securing a trophy were further hampered after Leganes secured a 2-1 win at the Bernabeu, which saw them progress to the semi-final of the King’s Cup on the away goal rule (2-2 on aggregate).
Arsenal appear to have reached a stumbling block in regards to the transfer valuation of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Don Balon suggests that Wenger could get his hands on Benzema this month for a fee of around £35m.
It is added that the former Lyon graduate has started searching for a new home in London despite having only inked a long-term deal with the European champions earlier in the campaign.
Benzema has not been in the best of form this campaign with injuries affecting his progress, and it may come as a huge surprise, if Arsenal are indeed plotting an approach for the French marksman.
Gunners’ first-choice striker Alexandre Lacazette has struggled to find the scoresheet on a regular basis of late.
However, his attitude on the playing field cannot be doubted, especially in the recent League Cup semi-final triumph over Chelsea, where he played a key role in Granit Xhaka’s winner.
