Depending on how you sum it up, pessimists and optimists listen on, yesterday was the perfect end to a trying week for Arsenal.
I for one was expecting the unexpected against Palace… a scorpion kick from Giroud? A 3-0 thumping like Selhurst Park last time around? Well, the answer was beyond belief and I certainly wouldn’t have put my money on today’s result.
A goal for Lacazette, one for Koscielny and a goal and a top-class performance from Monreal, until his unfortunate injury. I did tell you all Monreal was one to watch in my last article…. pat on the back for me.
But let’s not forget Iwobi, he’s easily forgotten for some reason, maybe because he ‘s never on the front pages of the tabloids, maybe because he never asks for more money or maybe because he just quietly gets on with enjoying his football. Well done lad! Well done Arsenal!
Out of the next 4 games, 3 are at home, so there is a God. Anyway, back to the game. Yes, Palace forgot to turn up but we still had to put the ball in the net so to speak. The initial 13-minute burst was a welcome sight… I should say so.
Monreal proved again that although he’s no pin-up, the Spaniard knows how to play and he is an influence for sure. His defending and effort have never been in question but we all overlook his attacking. One goal and two assists, well done you!!
Ozil was playing as if he still had the white shirt of Real Madrid on and that was from a Scouser, hands off Liverpool, you should be happy with The Ox. …….. Sorry, I paused to snigger then.
When you win 4-1 I suppose it’s easy to paper over the cracks, but for once I’m just happy. It was a London derby, all eyes were on us so the perfect performance should silence the critics for an hour and yes 4-1 is job done.
I had a perfect Saturday too, my local team Forest Green Rovers, you know, the only village team to play in the football league, had a 5-2 win to climb division 2 and I have just opened a bottle of Hungarian red 2015, but back to the Gunners.
You could say this is life without Sanchez, maybe the team played with more freedom without him moaning if he didn’t receive the perfect pass. Maybe there is an air of optimism in the changing room with the, dare I say, the imminent arrival of 2 quality players. Who cares, we won and it’s one game at a time at the moment.
Arsenal will definitely come across better defences than Palace this season, but the arrival of Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang will certainly test the toughest defences. Shoot, I hope I haven’t cursed the signings, Nah it’s a done deal…. isn’t it?
I can’t sign off without mentioning our favorite Mr.Wilshere, another great game today part of me hopes he doesn’t go to the World Cup but the lad deserves a call-up now for sure!!
