Arsenal have reportedly offered Alexis Sanchez with a fresh £300,000-a-week package in order to commit his long-term future to the club. The Chile international will take no part in the Premier League curtain raiser against Leicester City on Friday night as he is still recovering from an abdominal strain sustained last weekend.
According to The Mail, the Gunners have re-entered contractual negotiations with the 28-year-old after he snubbed £225,000-a-week offer – rising to £275,000-a-week with bonuses earlier this summer.
The 28-year-old has previously cited that he would want at least £300,000-a-week in order to consider talks over an extension, and the Gunners have now matched his demands with the hope that he will prolong his Emirates stay.
However, the fresh package does not guarantee the attacker’s future at Arsenal beyond June 2018, and it is yet to be known whether the club can strike a deal with the Chilean, The Mail adds.
Arsenal have been fairly active in the transfer market this summer with the signings of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette. The pair have already made a good impression among the club’s faithful with the former bagging the all-important goal in the Community Shield game against Chelsea (ended 1-1 normal time) which the Gunners won on penalties.
The focus for the final weeks of the transfer window is in the offensive department with the likes of Jean Michel Seri and Thomas Lemar being linked with potential moves to the Emirates.
Arsenal have not had the best of starts in the Premier League in recent years, and Wenger will want his side to clinch all three points against Craig Shakespeare’s Leicester City in the league opener.
