Chambers confirms he will join Arsenal for pre-season training

Calum Chambers will return to the Emirates for training amidst interest from a host of clubs

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has stated in an interview to Daily Star that he would return to the London Colney for pre-season training after completing his duties with the England U-21 side.

The 22-year old defender had played the full 90 minutes in all four of England’s games as a center back over another Arsenal youngster Rob Holding.

Chambers spent last season on loan at fellow Premier League club Middlesbrough FC and went on to feature in 25 Premier League games and two FA Cup games last term.

He also spent a brief period out on the sidelines with a foot injury. It was a fruitful experience for him personally in spite of team’s relegation to the Championship.

Chambers said the following in the interview:

“This season has been so important for me, playing games as a centre-back.

“The experience I have gained in that position just from playing is so valuable to me.

“I just feel it’s just pushed me on another level.

“I want to have a good tournament anyway and I’m focusing on here.

“If I have a good tournament it’s great and I’ll be going back to Arsenal for preseason and doing the best I can and seeing what happens.

“It’s been a very good season for me. I gave absolutely everything to try to get results and keep Middlesbrough in the Premier League.“Unfortunately I couldn’t do that and I was gutted.

“We have to see what happens.

“I’m an Arsenal player and I’ll be going back in for preseason and concentrating on that but at the moment my focus is on England and beating Germany.”

The Englishman who initially joined the north London club as a right back also played as a central defensive midfielder for a brief spell. He is now enjoying life as a center back and has become stronger both physically and mentally after his successful loan spell last season.

With club manager, Arsene Wenger now preferring three at the back Chambers might get an extended run if he can prove his worth by being consistent enough.

However, according to Mirror’s Sunday people (as quoted by Daily Star), a host of Premier League clubs including the likes of Everton, Southampton, Newcastle, and Bournemouth are all keen to acquire the talented CB either on loan or permanently this summer.

Hence Wenger must make up his mind soon regarding the future of Chambers and should decide whether he is still in his plans for the upcoming season. And above all Chambers must only be loaned out and not sold because he is a player who has a lot of potential.
