Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed speculation that the club have secured the services of Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.
A recent report covered suggested that the Gunners had agreed on a four-year pre-contract with the Bosnia international after they managed to fend off interest from Serie A outfit AC Milan.
However, when asked on the player’s potential arrival, Wenger was quick to deny the gossip by suggesting that the Gunners are nowhere close to landing the full-back’s signature.
The long-standing manager also insisted that the club have made no contact with the versatile defender, and he will leave the transfer talk for some other day.
“Nothing, no,” Wenger told reporters, via Metro. “We can deny that story at the moment. Nothing has been concluded with anybody. I think it is important we do not talk about transfers.”
The north London giants have endured one of their toughest campaigns under the Arsene Wenger reign this term, and this could see them miss out on the top-four spot for the first time since the 1996-97 season.
Despite this, Wenger receives the backing of the club’s hierarchy and is due to pen a fresh two-year extension ahead of what could be a busy transfer window for the Capital outfit.
Arsenal will seek to maintain their hopes of achieving some silverware in a disappointing season when they take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday afternoon.
After this, the concentration would be solely on their league campaign with the club seven points behind fourth-placed City, who hold the final Champions League qualification place.
