Arsenal have finally seen their unbeaten run come to a half, as they lost 2-0 to Southampton in the quarterfinal of EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
The Gunners might have their concentration focused on bigger prizes but they might have hoped of adding the Cup to their cabinet too, but those hopes were trashed early in the first half as Southampton scored two.
Wenger made wholesale changes to the squad with one eye on their weekend Premier League fixture against West Ham, but he would have been expecting a much better showing from his players.
Despite those changes there was still some experience there with summer signing Lucas Perez started, with both Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny lining up in midfield.
Goals from Jordan Clasie and Ryan Bertrand saw the Saints go in at the break 2-0 up and effectively see off the North London club’s hopes of winning the EFL Cup.
Although most of the players performed well below their capabilities, the fans were quite disappointed with the performance of Jenkinson. Both goals came down the Gunners’ right flank and the youngster was out of position for the first, then gave the ball away poorly for the latter and failed to recover.
He has been out with injury for a while and was immediately thrown into big games where he failed to make an impact. This game was a perfect chance to prove his credentials but he came up with a mediocre performance again. Must improve.
Here are some of the Reactions on Twitter:
Hopefully not!
Hopefully that's the last time we see Jenkinson play for Arsenal 😂

#Jenkinson, as nice a guy as he is, just isn't good enough, even for the #EFLCup. I think that's the last we'll see of him at #AFC.
