Chelsea FC is reportedly set to rival the Gunners for the signing of the £25m rated Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, according to the player’s agent Miroslav Bicanic.
A central midfielder predominantly, Brozovic was a key player for the Nerazzurri last season, making 32 Serie A appearances and managing four goals and four assists at the end of the season.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have already strengthened their central midfield this summer, having completed the signings of Granit Xhaka and N’Golo Kante respectively.
However, Brozovic can add something different to the position, with his ability to operate further forward than those two coming into play.
In an exclusive interview to Croatian daily tabloid website Index as quoted by fcInternews.it Brozovic’s agent Bicanic has said:
“Marcelo is on the transfer list, but you should ask the club. He’s a professional, he behaves so at Inter, but would do it even in other clubs. Let’s see in the next days”.
Hence the future of Marcelo Brozovic is up in the air. The Nerazzurri are close to signing the 23-year old Portuguese Euro 2016 winning midfielder Joao Mario and 19-year old Brazilian Olympic gold medal winning winger Gabriel Barbosa (aka Gabigol), but they might need to sell the Croatian international in order to get the exciting duo.
Miroslav Bicanic says that both the London clubs are chasing the 23-year old Croatian midfielder who will cost them around £25.5m.
He was also a target for defending Serie A champions Juventus and Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur very recently.
In another separate interview according to fcInternews.it the following day Brozovic’s agent added:
“There are many opportunities and I listen about great European clubs for him. I know that Chelsea’s managers are in Milano for him and Arsenal are interested too. Inter push to sell him to one of these clubs available to pay what the Nerazzurri ask for. But now I’m in Zagreb and there’s time before the end of the transfer market. We are not in a hurry and until Marcelo doesn’t sign any contract he remains an Inter’s player”.
Since Juventus have also been linked with Brozovic as they continue to reinforce their squad with the money banked from selling Paul Pogba to Manchester United it would not be an easy walk in the park for the London clubs including Spurs to secure the signing of Brozovic.
Hence with only five days remaining in the 2016 summer transfer window, Brozovic will be a player to look out for in the transfer market.
