Injury Update: Copa America star to get extended break

Alexis Sanchez was elected the best player of the Copa America as Chile won the tournament on penalties. He received the Golden Ball for his outstanding performances netting 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 matches.

Unfortunately, at the start of the match, he was tackled by Argentine right-back Gabriel Mercado in the 4th minute of the final when he damaged his ankle severely but he still played the whole 90 minutes and was substituted in the extra time.

He used anaesthesia to join in for the celebrations but even after that he could barely do what all players do after winning such a coveted trophy.

It is reported that Arsene Wenger will let him recuperate from this injury and will give him some extra time off. Holidays for footballers aren’t as long as people think.

These weeks are the only time of the year when they can do what they want, chill, eat what they want, go on holiday and put on a kilo or two and rest. Hope Alexis makes the most out of it.

Today Alexis shared a picture on his twitter account showing how his ankle was all swollen and how he soldiered on for the whole 90 minutes.

Sanchez did not tell how much time it would take him to get back on the field. The injury will likely be a concern for Arsenal, as the preseason kicks off on July 28 against MLS-All Stars in San Jose, California.

With news last week that Jamie Vardy wouldn’t be arriving at the Emirates this summer, Arsenal supporters will be keen to see some attacking reinforcements now that Sanchez’s fitness looks in doubt.

Let’s hope he rests well and plays with his dogs at home and not go out on the beach and start doing what he does.
