Arsenal may re-ignite interest in Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema this summer. According to the Daily Star, the Los Blancos are planning to sign Robert Lewandowski- who is being valued at around £80 million- from Bayern Munich and his arrival could signal the end of Benzema with the Spanish giants, who would also be ready to listen to offered for him.
Arsene Wenger is known to be a long-time admirer of the French striker, having attempted to sign him when he was at Lyon before moving to Real Madrid. Even at the Santiago Bernabeu, speculations linking the 28-year-old have refused to die.
Arsenal, Man United and Man City have also shown interest in Lewandowski. City hope in coming boss Pep Guardiola who is currently the Polish striker coach at the Allianz Arena- will capitalize on the relationship between the duos will help secure a deal with him.
But the entrance of Real into the race might hamper such move. Wenger is looking to bring a top-class striker to the Emirates to bolster the club’s attack that has gone blunt. The Gunners has the fewest goal of the teams in the top four.
And he has identified Lewandowski as of the potential recruits he might sign to achieve that goal. The involvement of Real Madrid in the race to sign the former Borussia Dortmund forward means Wenger may, in turn, finally lay his hands on his long-term target.
Despite his off-field scandals this season, Benzema has remained effective on the pitch. A formation of Benzema, Sanchez and Ozil in the Gunners frontline will strengthen the attack. He has both the ability to score and provide assists.
Benzema joined Real Madrid in 2009 for a transfer fee worth €35 million. He has won the Champions League, Copa del Rey and La Liga titles with the club.
Report per Italian journalist, Emanuele Giulianeli, the French striker was deeply linked with Arsenal last summer and they are also willing to bid for him once more should he likely to become available.
However, there are certain proves that Benzema experience some off-field troubles during his 2015-16 campaign at Real, but yet, he still maintains to be one lucrative strikers in Europe and has scored 24-goals in his 26 La Liga appearances this season according WhoScored.
Base on my opinion, if the gunners could perfect the deal with Benzema, he would undeniably be an upgrade on Walcott and Giroud at the front line, and surely, it would perfectly work effectively with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
