Spanish forward Lucas Perez has no thoughts of leaving Arsenal despite his restricted playing time under Arsene Wenger this season, agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle has revealed.
The 28-year-old notched 17 goals for Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga last term after which he earned a move to the north London club, who triggered the £17.1m release clause in his contract.
Perez has since managed just 21 appearances across all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s side while he has provided seven goals and five assists in the process.
With the attacker having ambitions of representing Spain in next year’s World Cup, there had been a suggestion that the player could opt for a return to A Coruna even if it means to take a significant pay cut on his £70,000-a-week wages.
However, this has been refuted by the player’s representative who insists that there are no talks in place to oversee his client’s departure from the Emirates in the summer.
“It’s not true and we haven’t been talking with anyone,” Rodrigo told Goal.com. “Lucas has three years left on his contract with Arsenal.
“In the summer when the season is finished we can talk but right now we are only thinking about Arsenal.”
Perez, who is currently nursing a thigh injury, has found himself on the fringes of the Gunners’ first-team with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez vying for positions in the attack front.
In spite of this, he has managed to make valuable contribution in certain games with his Champions League hat-trick against Swiss champions Basel being a particular highlight in the ongoing campaign.
At the age of 28, Perez will only have a couple of seasons at his peak form, and the lack of clarity over his Arsenal future could push him for a fresh challenge – be it with a domestic rival.
