Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas could be the subject of a surprise approach from Arsenal during the January transfer window. The Spain international joined the Blues from Barcelona in the summer of 2014.
Fabregas, 29, has had a tough stint with the Blues this season with manager Antonio Conte preferring to stick with N’Golo Konte and Nemanja Matic at the heart of the midfield.
According to the Express, the Gunners are plotting a surprise raid for their former skipper as they seek to overcome the unavailability of Spanish maestro Santi Cazorla.
Cazorla, 31, was the driving force for the Gunners at the start of the campaign, and his injury absence has been evident over the past month with the club failing to make the most of their opportunities at home against Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough.
The former Malaga man is sidelined for at least two months following a surgery on an Achilles problem, and this has led to speculation over a potential comeback for Fabregas.
Fabregas, who earns £220,000-a-week (via Times) is deemed a ‘pantomime villain’ by many of the Gunners’ faithful for his decision to join their London rivals, and this in one way rules out the club’s chances of landing the Spaniard.
Meanwhile, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has also dismissed the club’s need for a new midfielder with the Frenchman content on utilizing the resources in hand.
The likes of Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey are all present to occupy the central midfield in the hectic schedule ahead, whilst there is also the possibility of recalling Jack Wilshere from his loan spell at Bournemouth.
It should also be noted that the Blues are currently cruising at the top of the league standings, and Conte would well be aware of the need for sufficient backup, if his side are to sustain their challenge until the end of the season.
What do you think guys? Should we bring back Fabregas?
