Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral has confirmed that he will return to the Emirates once his loan stint with Rangers concludes in the summer.
The 22-year-old linked up with the Scottish Premiership club Rangers in January after he failed to make a regular run with La Liga strugglers Granada.
Toral had appeared just six times for the Spanish club over the first half of the season, and this urged the Gunners to recall the midfielder with a view to pushing his move to Rangers.
Since then, the former La Masia student has managed to make a decent impression with two goals and three assists in 12 appearances, and he has not been consistent enough to win over the Rangers’ faithful.
When asked about his future plans, Toral confirmed that he will be returning to his parent club this summer with the hope of making himself a regular in the Gunners first-team.
“I have another season left at Arsenal so I will go back and it will depend on where they see me, in terms of whether they see me ready for the first team or if they see me doing better with another loan,” he told RangersTV.
He is also prepared to sit and discuss a new contract with the north London club after having earned the confidence of Arsene Wenger with a fresh one-year deal earlier in the year.
“I have to see if they want to give me another contract, so I will wait and talk to them and then we will go from there,” He added.
Toral arrived alongside Hector Bellerin from La Masia in the summer of 2011, and many felt that the pair could make a major impression in the Gunners first-team.
While Bellerin has transformed into one of the best right-backs in the English top flight, Toral has not quite developed at a similar level with injuries and the lack of sufficient playing time hindering his prospects of breaking into the senior squad.
The Spaniard has shown glimpses of his potential in his loan spells at Birmingham City and currently at Rangers, but time may be running out for the attacker, who has received the backing of Wenger all too often over the past few seasons.
