Spanish newspaper confirms Joel Lopez will sign for Arsenal this summer

Unai Emery

Most of the players that Arsenal have been linked to this summer would belong to the experienced category.

This includes the signings that have been made in the form of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno. But, the club has made a move to bring in promising youngster Joel Lopez from Barcelona who is expected to join the Gunners this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

After all the older players that have been linked, it is refreshing to see a young player choosing Arsenal. Earlier, there were rumors that Yacine Adli would be joining the Gunners from PSG, but that did not happen.

In the case of Joel Lopez, the links are much more concrete as the player is set to arrive at the Emirates next season. The respected newspaper had this to say about the deal:

“The greats of Europe already offer succulent offers and Barca cannot compete on many occasions. This year there is confirmed two casualties in this category. The one of Joel Lopez, left back that goes to the Arsenal, and the one of Pablo Moreno, forward who will sign for Juventus.”

When the transfer is made official, Lopez would join the ranks of Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin and Fran Merida to make the jump from La Masia to London.

Losing such promising youngsters has been a problem for quite some time now for Barcelona as they have seen many European clubs including Manchester City and AS Monaco raiding their academy.

This is a testament to the quality of players that they are able to produce as there are so many clubs looking to pluck the best talents from them. Lopez is highly regarded at the club and it is obvious that they are unhappy at the fact that he is being allowed to go to Arsenal.

It is clear that Lopez is one for the future and fans would surely love to see him bombing down the Emirates very soon. The youth teams of Arsenal will provide the player with the right kind of platform to develop his skills.
