Sampdoria appear to confirm Arsenal have already signed Lucas Torreira, President speaks out

A lot of Arsenal fans thought that yesterday would be the day that the Gunners would finally be able to confirm Lucas Torreira as one of their own.

Alas, it was not to be as there was no news on that front from the London club. But, there was an interesting development coming from Italy where Torreira’s club Sampdoria have gone ahead and removed the player from their website, according to football.london.

This was spotted by an Arsenal fan on Twitter who had this say:

‘Lucas Torreira has now been omitted from Sampdoria’s squad on the official website. http://www.sampdoria.it/primasquadra/

It is an indication that the transfer is more or less complete and given the fact that Torreira was in London for his medical, it is only a matter of a few hours before we see him unveiled. Many fans were getting impatient with the club for not confirming the deal but with this bit of information, it is as good as a confirmation.

The president of Sampdoria Massimo Ferrero has also been talking about the deal for the Uruguayan and he had this to say when asked about the player’s departure:

“It will be very complicated to replace him”, Ferrero told Italian newspaper Il Secolo XIX.

“We are looking at four different players: a Spaniard, a Belgian, a Croatian and one Italian.

“We need a strong player who can help us to make a step forward.”

Torreira was very impressive in the World Cup where he showed just why Arsenal wanted to sign him in the first place. He was impressive in both attack as well as defense. It is clear that he will fit into his new team very well.

Maybe Tuesday is going to the day that fans will get to see Arsenal confirm the signing of Torreira. The excitement among fans is quite palpable as they know what he will bring to the team and how that will help the squad. Let us hope that the Gunners make their fans happy today.
